Enhancement of rat brain tyrosine aminotransferase activity by cortisol.

چکیده
Administration of cortisol to rats enhanced brain tyrosine:2-oxoglutarate aminotransferase activity by a mechanism excluding stabilization, but possibly involving enhanced synthesis, of the enzyme.

Tyrosine aminotransferase gene expression in a temperature-sensitive adult rat liver cell line.
Regulation of tyrosine aminotransferase gene expression was studied in an adult rat hepatocyte line (RALA255-10G) which is temperature sensitive for the maintenance of the differentiated liver phenotype. Glucocorticoid hormones such as cortisol were necessary for expression of the aminotransferase gene. In the absence of these steroids, enzyme synthesis, activity, and mRNA accumulation were vir...
متن کاملParadoxical effects of glucocorticoids on regulation of plasminogen activator activity. Mediation by glucocorticoid receptors.
Dexamethasone, a synthetic glucocorticoid, decreases the plasminogen activator (PA) activity of HTC rat hepatoma cells in tissue culture. Paradoxically, dexamethasone enhances the cyclic nucleotide stimulation of PA activity in these cells 2-4-fold. In this report, we investigated whether this paradoxical glucocorticoids as the induction of tyrosine aminotransferase activity. We compared the co...
متن کاملStabilization of rat liver tyrosine aminotransferase by tetracycline.
Rat liver tyrosine aminotransferase was purified 200-fold and an antiserum raised against it in rabbits. 2. Hepatic tyrosine aminotransferase activity was increased fourfold by tyrosine, twofold by tetracycline, 2.5-fold by cortisone 21-acetate and ninefold by a combination of tyrosine and cortisol administered intraperitoneally to rats. 3. Radioimmunoassay with 14C-labelled tyrosine aminotrans...
متن کاملNo correlation between binding of glucocorticosteroids to specific cytoplasmic proteins in vivo and enzyme induction in the rat liver.
Time- and dose-dependence of the formation of the different cytoplasmic hormone-protein complexes were studied in the rat liver after administration in vivo of [3H]cortisol or [3H]dexamethasone and compared with the stimulation of RNA polymerase B and induction of tyrosine aminotransferase and tryptophan oxygenase. No correlation could be found between formation in vivo of any of the five cytop...
متن کاملEvidence for reversible inactivation of induced tyrosine aminotransferase in rat liver in vivo.
Induction of tyrosine aminotransferase (EC 2.6.1.5) with cortisol is followed by a rapid phase of inactivation of the enzyme, during which administration of puromycin causes a sharp increase in enzyme activity. The increase is not due to puromycin-resistant synthesis of protein, since precipitation of the enzyme with antibodies to tyrosine aminotransferase after pulse labeling inhibited incorpo...
